NORMAN — Senior linebacker Eric Striker was given two national honors Tuesday for his performance in last weekend’s 44-24 win over West Virginia.
He was named the AutoNation National Defensive Player of the Year by the Football Writers Association of America, and also the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week.
Striker tied a career high with 12 tackles, recorded two sacks and forced a fumble against the Mountaineers. The national honors come one day after he was named the Big 12 Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week.
AutoNation will donate $1,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in Striker’s name, and the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation will make a $1,000 donation to OU’s general scholarship fund.
