NORMAN — Former Oklahoma linebacker Eric Striker was named as the 15th recipient of the Otis Sullivant Award for Perceptivity at the University of Oklahoma.
Striker is the first student to win the $20,000 award, and was chosen because of his response to the racist fraternity video that became a national embarrassment for OU more than a year ago.
He and other football players helped lead the university’s response to the video, and Striker especially became a public voice for those who felt change was needed on campus.
The Otis Sullivant Award is presented each year to a faculty or staff member or a student at OU who exhibits “keen perceptivity.
