Derland Moore, who teamed with Raymond Hamilton and Lucious Selmon to form a ferocious 1972 Oklahoma defensive line and set the stage for future great defenses, died Thursday in Louisiana at the age of 68.
Moore spent 13 years as a New Orleans Saints defensive lineman and is in the Saints Hall of Fame.
Moore, from Poplar Bluff, Missouri, came to OU on a track scholarship. He went out for the football team and became a mainstay on Chuck Fairbanks’ teams. The 1972 Sooners posted four shutouts, including against Texas and, in the Sugar Bowl, against Penn State.
