NORMAN — When Hagen Patterson sees interviews and pregame warm-up clips of a serious Baker Mayfield, he can't help but chuckle and shake his head.
The real Mayfield — the one those closest to him see regularly — is the goofball wearing sunglasses and a ballcap, standing in the middle of a circle of teammates doing the “whip” dance in a video that went viral earlier this year, or the quarterback sprinting and high-stepping 80 yards downfield to jump on Joe Mixon and celebrate a long touchdown reception.
“It's so funny because I know that side of him that's just goofy and hilarious,” said Patterson, a close friend and former Lake Travis High School (Austin, Texas) teammate.
