It was an interesting time for the Oklahoma football program. The Sooners made a change at offensive coordinator, hiring a largely unproven young coach from East Carolina named Lincoln RIley to take over the helm of the offense. He brought with him receivers coach Dennis Simmons. Cale Gundy, long thought of as an ace recruiter on the Sooners’ staff, made the move from running backs to inside receivers. Offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh was just settling in, pulling in his first full class as member of the Sooners’ staff. It was also Jerry Montgomery’s final class as a member of the Oklahoma football staff.
