When Alex Grinch was hired as Oklahoma's defensive coordinator last week, it appeared unlikely that defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks would return to the Sooners staff, especially given Grinch's background as a defensive backs coach.
Friday night, that came to pass as Cooks was announced as the new safeties coach at Texas Tech under new coach Matt Wells.
Cooks joined the Oklahoma staff in 2015 after a stint at Notre Dame. The last two years, he's also been the assistant defensive coordinator.
The secondary struggled this season, as Oklahoma was last among the 129 FBS programs in passing yards allowed.
