Glenn Isaac Fretz pleaded for at least five minutes for a chance, his opportunity at a record ticking away.
Fretz, a disabled Army veteran riding a handcycle in last year’s Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, was just too fast to go out on the full marathon course.
“They knew I was going to do the full marathon,” Fretz said. “They just did not get the intersections closed off for my safety because I was averaging 18 miles an hour. So they turned me around.”
Fretz’ quick riding got him to the point in the course where the half and full marathon courses diverge too early for the roads to be closed off.
