The Oklahoma softball team did what it was supposed to do.
The Sooners entered the Big 12 Championship weekend in the hunt for another championship to pair with their regular season crown in hopes that another title would vault them into the top-eight of the RPI rankings. A top-eight spot wouldn't guarantee a Super Regional hosting gig, but it sure would help the team's case.
On Saturday afternoon the Sooners circled up on the diamond in celebration at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium after shortstop Kelsey Arnold fired a pass to first baseman Shay Knighten for the final out of the first Big 12 Championship title game after a six-year hiatus.
