NORMAN — Sunday, as his Oklahoma baseball team was hosting Sam Houston State, Sooners coach Pete Hughes was 15 miles away from L. Dale Mitchell Park, unconscious.
Hughes was undergoing an angioplasty, a day after leaving the ballpark during OU’s game after feeling persistent chest pains.
It was a scary weekend for Hughes, his family and his team. But Hughes was back to work Tuesday when Oklahoma played at Wichita State, was back on the road recruiting in Minnesota on Wednesday and will be in the dugout for the Sooners’ critical three-game series against Oklahoma State that begins at 7 Friday night at Tulsa’s ONEOK Field.
