Ohio State adopts the Oklahoma model to replace Urban Meyer

Urban Meyer announced his retirement from Ohio State on Tuesday, and the Buckeyes embraced the Oklahoma model to carry on as a college football juggernaut.

Go young, promote from within and don’t look back.

What OU did with Bud Wilkinson replacing Jim Tatum, and Chuck Fairbanks replacing Jim Mackenzie, and Barry Switzer replacing Fairbanks, and Lincoln Riley replacing Bob Stoops, Ohio State did with Ryan Day replacing Meyer.

Day, like Riley, is in his 30s. Day is 39 and Riley was 33 when named to succeed Stoops in June 2017.

Day, like Riley at OU, had completed two seasons as quarterback coach, though Day was not in charge of the Buckeye offense (Kevin Wilson is).
