Ohio Stadium 'crowd' did Urban Meyer no favors

Around 30,000 Ohio State fans reportedly signed a petition in support of embattled Buckeye football coach Urban Meyer. Barely more than 100 fans showed up at Ohio State for a rally Monday evening for Meyer, at one point chanting his name. “Ur-ban Mey-er. Ur-ban Mey-er.”

The crowd’s stated intention was to show support for Meyer. But the crowd actually damaged Meyer’s standing as he stays suspended from his job, in the wake of Ohio State’s investigation into allegations that former assistant coach Zach Smith committed domestic violence against his wife.

If 10,000 Ohio State fans had shown up, that would be problematic for Buckeye decision-makers, regardless of their bent on the situation.
