New OU president Jim Gallogly has big shoes to fill

NORMAN — Jim Gallogly finished his remarks Monday after being introduced as OU's 14th president and walked over to the side of the stage in the Molly Shi Boren Ballroom. Gallogly lifted an old, faded OU cap off the head of a seated Ruf-Nek.

Gallogly placed the cap on his own head, walked back to the microphone and said, “We love this place. We truly love this place ...”

It was a cap. Not a visor. The times have truly changed.

Bob Stoops, who retired last June, and David Boren, who is retiring this June, were seated nearby, but the new trinity of Sooner football is Lincoln Riley, Joe Castiglione and a corporate executive from Houston who helped shepherd the Conoco-Phillips merger and led chemical company LyondellBasell from the brink of bankruptcy.
