NORMAN — Not long before the NCAA Tournament selection show began Sunday afternoon, Marcus and Petra Woodard had accepted reality.
After Friday night's loss to Memphis in the American Athletic Conference Tournament in Orlando, Fla., James Woodard had prepared his parents for the reality that his college career at Tulsa was going to end somewhere other than the NCAA Tournament.
While driving back from Orlando on Sunday afternoon, the Woodards had talked of their hope that at least the Golden Hurricane would secure a No. 1 seed in the NIT. They would be able to stay at home for most of the tournament, making their travel schedule nice and easy with their other son's team, Oklahoma, opening the NCAA Tournament in Oklahoma City.
