Cal State-Bakersfield participated in its first-ever Division I NCAA Tournament this season, opening against Oklahoma in Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The Roadrunners had a special guest in the house for the occasion.
U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) — the House majority leader — sat in the front row at The Peake to watch his alma mater take on the Sooners.
McCarthy graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Bakersfield in 1989 and an MBA in 1994. He was elected to Congress in 2006.
McCarthy was born in Bakersfield and has lived there his entire life.
