NCAA Tournament: For Lon Kruger and the 3, it was love at first site

Steve Henson liked to shoot in solitude.

After practices at Kansas State's Ahearn Fieldhouse, Henson would wait until the gym cleared and watch junior college transfer Will Scott hoist 3-pointer after 3-pointer.

“It was something to watch,” Henson, now an Oklahoma assistant, said. “He'd get on a roll and he might make 15 or 20 in a row and then he'd miss one and he'd put his head down and start complaining and then rattle off another big streak.”

It gave Henson something to emulate when Scott finally cleared of the gym.

The 1986-87 season was Lon Kruger's first season coaching his alma mater and it didn't take long for Kruger to dive into the new reality of the 3-point line.
