NCAA officials: Out on sixth-inning diving catch was correct call

With two runners on base and two outs in the sixth inning, Shay Knighten drilled a hard hit to right field.

As the Sooners took off around the bases, right fielder Trysten Melhart dove for the ball, reaching out to make the catch. It fell in her glove, and the umpire called the third out. But as Melhart stood, she transferred the ball to her other hand. The whole motion happened so quickly that it appeared she bobbled the catch.

It sent pitching and first base coach Melyssa Lombardi charging on to the dirt to have a conversation with the umpires, one that coach Patty Gasso soon joined.
