NCAA files motion to dismiss in Amani Bledsoe lawsuit

The NCAA has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit brought against the association by OU sophomore defensive lineman Amani Bledsoe.

Bledsoe’s lawsuit, which asks restore a year of eligibility lost to suspension for a failed test of performance-enhancing drugs and cover costs and attorney’s fees, argues that the NCAA bylaws surrounding the student-athlete drug testing are unconstitutional in Oklahoma “because they administer damaging, life-changing, quasi-criminal punishments to student-athletes on strict liability basis without any type of knowledge, intent” or acknowledgement that the acts could result in a punishment.

Essentially, Bledsoe’s lawsuit claims that the NCAA violated his procedural and substantive process rights under the Due Process Clause of the Oklahoma Constitution.
