The NCAA is taking a rare step.
The NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments are officially canceled due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic. So are the remaining winter championship tournaments. Even the spring championship tournaments are canceled.
“This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities,” the NCAA statement said.
At the same time, the Big 12 also announced more measures hours after canceling its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments along with other championship tournaments through April 15.
