But the former Edmond Santa Fe and Tennessee star’s size and skills earned him a chance in the NBA after Richardson was picked 40th overall by the Miami in the second round of the NBA Draft on Thursday night.
Richardson rose on draft boards over the past month as he showed off his strong perimeter defense in workouts.
The 6-foot-6 guard is the second former Santa Fe standout to be drafted in the NBA. Both went out of state for college.
Former Baylor standout Ekpe Udoh, who was taken sixth overall in 2010, is the other.
