The great Billy Mills, the 1964 Olympic gold medal winner in the 10,000 meters, spoke at the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame quarterly luncheon last week. I told my tablemates that when I was a kid, I read about Mills and how he pulled off one of the all-time Olympic upsets. How Mills was knocked outside down the homestretch of the final lap, found better footing on the muddy track and sprinted to a rousing victory.
Sometimes, bad times turn good. I thought of Mills on Sunday, trying to get home Pittsburgh, following the OSU-West Virginia game on Saturday.
