Marita Hynes marvels at the development of WCWS

Wearing a visor and a black-and-white checkered shirt, Marita Hynes leaned on a short wall under the overhang at the Hall of Fame Stadium.

The former Women's College World Series director was just a spectator Thursday afternoon, enjoying a return to the tournament she used to run. It was her first trip to the WCWS after a two-year hiatus, and she was anxiously watching the Sooners battle Pac-12 foe Washington.

Hynes, who lives in Ruidoso, New Mexico, retired from OU in 2003 after a long tenure as an administrator and champion of women's athletics. The Okemah native hired both softball coach Patty Gasso and women's basketball coach Sherri Coale.
