NORMAN — About six years ago, Brian Bosworth was going through boxes in his garage and came across a note he'd never seen before.
When the letter arrived at his family's home in Texas, Bosworth wasn't about to receive its message, either physically or emotionally.
Bosworth remembered the letter Monday night when he was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame at Riverwind Casino.
The other inductees Monday night were sportscaster Bob Barry Jr., track star Joe Dial, football standout Leon Heath, fisherman and television personality Jimmy Houston and golfer Scott Verplank.
That card came from Gary Gibbs in May 1987, just months after Bosworth infamously wore a T-shirt that read “National Communists Against Athletes” as he stood on the sideline of the Orange Bowl after being suspended for the game after a positive steroids test.
