Knock out: OU channels fight mentality, wins second straight Big 12 title

NORMAN — With his team gathered for their weekly Friday night meeting, coach Bob Stoops dimmed the lights in the Oklahoma football team's meeting room and flicked on old boxing highlights.

This Friday night, on the evening before the biggest game of the season, the one for a Big 12 championship and a berth in the Sugar Bowl, Stoops selected a medley of Sugar Ray Leonard's best fights.

Together, Stoops and the Sooners watched Leonard dance around the ring, knocking out opponents like Tommy Hearns and Roberto Duran in some of his biggest fights. It's been an OU pregame tradition for the last 10 weeks, and it was only appropriate that the team watch one of the best boxers of all time before entering their biggest fight of the season against Oklahoma State.
