Marcus Green needed a new football home. Clay Patterson needed to do his homework.
Green, a Cedar Hill, Texas, native, played in eight games as a redshirt freshman cornerback at Oklahoma in 2015. But just two weeks before the Sooners' Orange Bowl appearance, OU coach Bob Stoops announced Green had been “removed from the team.”
Enter Patterson, head football coach at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, who assessed whether the risk of picking up Green was worth the reward.
“He needed us to help him rehab his image,” Patterson said, “and rehab what he was doing academically.
