The College Football Playoff committee has a new member. Iowa athletic director Gary Barta has replaced Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith, who says he is leaving the committee to focus more on Buckeye football and new head coach Ryan Day.
It appears to be a wash as far as the Big 12 is concerned. Here is Barta’s background.
Barta, 55, has been the Hawkeye AD since 2006, when he was hired to succeed Bob Bowlsby, after Bowlsby left to become athletic director at Stanford.
Barta was hired away from the University of Wyoming, where he had been athletic director since 2003.
