We’re only three weeks into the college football season, with plenty of non-conference games remaining both Saturday and especially in November. But it’s never too early to compare conferences.
In the eternal debate about bragging rights, how have the conferences fared so far?
Well, the best grouping is not a conference. The major independents, which really only include Notre Dame and Brigham Young, have been superb, going a combined 4-1 against major-conference opponents. And that doesn’t include BYU’s victory over Boise State, which isn’t in a Power-5 Conference but is better than most Power-5 teams.
Here are the conference records against each other:
Independents: 4-1
SEC: 4-2
Pac-12: 5-4
Big 12: 3-3
Big Ten: 7-8
ACC: 3-8
It’s been a tough start for the ACC, though give the Atlantic Coast Conference some credit.
