The Texas Tribune had a story, still posted, about how much Texas public universities are spending on intercollegiate athletics. One of the more eye opening numbers was from the Univ. of Houston. Not only are the students taxing themselves millions to pay for it, the university is contributing $17 million in the last year to underwrite the athletic department. Aren't they a classic case of misguided priorities given that the bulk of their students are "non traditional" students or grad students?
