Brynden Walker stopped and turned to look at the play that just ended.
Walker, a senior on McGuinness’ football team and an Oklahoma commit at linebacker, was a lead blocker on offense, moving to his left and sealing a hole for a receiver running behind him. The receiver went down, but as Walker turned to walk back toward the line of scrimmage, he went down also.
Following the whistle, an Ardmore player came from Walker’s left and dove at his knee. Walker collapsed and didn’t return to the contest. The injury happened in the first quarter of McGuinness’ 46-14 win against the defending state runners-up in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
