The Heisman Trophy announcement last Saturday was high drama. Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was considered the front-runner most of the season, but Kyler Murray staged a stirring rally, and by last weekend, most analysts figured the Oklahoma quarterback would win.
Still, there was more doubt than usual over who’s name would be called and who would be bequeathed a status that lasts a lifetime, so long as you’re not Reggie Bush or O.J. Simpson.
But sharp detectives can find clues everywhere, and Murray’s eventual victory could have been deduced moments earlier, when Heisman trustee Vasili Krishnamurti came on stage to announce the winners.
