The fall from being hit on by Katy Perry on national television to becoming second fiddle on his own team has been a long and unexpected drop for Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight.
OU's 2014 starting quarterback, who earned the status by delivering a riveting Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama following the 2013 season to stamp himself as OU's QB of the future, isn't even the favorite now to return as the starter for 2015.
That distinction belongs to Texas Tech transfer Baker Mayfield, a walk-on freshman sensation in 2013, who got crossways with Red Raiders coach Kliff Kingsbury and transferred to OU, where he had to sit out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.
