Chip Kelly stood on the sideline of a high school practice in Wichita, Kansas in 2009 to evaluate a Bishop Kelly High School quarterback.
The then first-year Oregon coach carefully observed practice before making a brief comment to Alan Shuckman, the school's coach.
“Coach Kelly turned to me and said, ‘He is one of the best quarterbacks in the country,' ” Shuckman said.
Blake Bell was the quarterback Kelly watched that afternoon in Wichita, Kan.
Seven years later, Kelly finally has the opportunity to coach Bell.
Except Bell isn't Kelly's quarterback. He is now a tight end in Kelly's fast-paced offense.
