Claye took the silver medal in the triple jump, finishing in second place in the event for the second straight Olympics. The gold-medal winner, Christian Taylor, also of the United States, also finished ahead of Claye to grab the gold in the 2012 London Games.
Claye posted a career-best leap of 58 feet, 3 1/4 inches on his first attempt in the triple- jump finals at the Rio Games on Tuesday. He jumped 57 feet, 11 inches in qualifying first in the event at the U.S. Olympic Trials earlier this summer.
The 2016 Olympic silver medalist spent his first two seasons in collegiate track and field at Oklahoma, winning the NCAA indoor and outdoor triple-jump crown in 2009, his freshman year at OU.
