Former Oklahoma All-American LB James "Jimbo" Elrod was killed in a single-car accident at about 3:45 a.m. Monday morning, according Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Elrod's car was traveling eastbound on the Turner Turnpike between near Chandler, Okla., when it hit a guardrail and overturned, OHP Capt. Paul Timmons told NewsOK.
Elrod, 62, who not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car through the sunroof. Elrod's wife, Diana, 61, was wearing a seat belt and taken to OU Medical Center in serious condition.
The patrol reports there was an odor of alcohol detected on Jimbo Elrod, according to NewsOK.
