Last Friday was the 39th anniversary of Miracle on Ice, the U.S. hockey team’s stunning Olympic upset of the Soviet Union. Last Friday also was the Thunder-Jazz NBA game. Which brought us to another miracle.
The rosters for the Thunder and Jazz combined had three University of Kentucky players – OKC’s Nerlens Noel, Patrick Patterson and Hamidou Diallo. Those same rosters combined had four Iowa State players – the Thunder’s Deonte Burton and Abdel Nader, and Utah’s Georges Niang and Naz Mitrou-Long.
“That’s rare,” said Niang.
Then Tuesday night in Denver, Burton and Nader saw another Cyclone, their old point guard Monte Morris.
