The NCAA believe it is "appropriate to grant relief for the use of a season" for spring sport student-athletes.
The decision was made by the NCAA's Council Coordination Committee, according to basketball analyst Jeff Goodman. This includes baseball and softball whose seasons started in February.
The Athletic's Nicole Auerbach reported that a note was sent to NCAA membership saying "it will be appropriate to grant relief for the use of a season for competition for student-athletes who have participated in spring sports."
The committee is still deciding on winter sport student-athletes, according to Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel.
