“It was so hard,” Kindler said, fighting off tears of her own. “Our seniors immediately, you know, broke down and were devastated. I don’t think anyone really saw it coming. We knew obviously there were some things happening but in a span of eight hours so much happened.”
The Sooners have three seniors — Maggie Nichols, Jade Degouveia and Bre Showers.
Showers’ career was ended by injury but Nichols and Degouveia were preparing to compete for a second consecutive national championship and third in four years.
“I didn’t have a lot of wisdom to impart,” Kindler said.
