In 1965, Bob Blaik told The Associated Press about the expulsion, “We were not allowed to notify our parents in advance. The first notice we got was from the newspaper and radio.”
President Harry Truman eventually ruled that the banished cadets could resign from the academy, so as to not face dishonorable discharge, and they scattered all over the country.
Bob Blaik transferred to Colorado College, where he graduated with a physics degree and met his future wife. Such was the respect for Red Blaik that after the 1951 season, in which Bob Blaik did not play, he still was invited to play in the North-South All-Star Game in Miami.
