I wrote about college football scheduling last week, and a reader pointed out that one of the problems with the dumbing down of schedules is that universities limit the diversity of opponents. In other words, there are all kinds of interesting matchups that never get played.
And it got me to wondering. What Power 5 Conference matchups haven’t been played?
I went to OU and found just six Power 5 schools that never have played the Sooners: Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Purdue, Rutgers and South Carolina. That’s remarkable. Sixty-five Power 5 schools, and OU has played 58 of the possible 64.
