Beware the bye week in college football. It suddenly has become license to fire coordinators. On Sunday, OU fired defensive coordinator Mike Stoops. On Wednesday, Kansas fired offensive coordinator Doug Meacham.
Meacham, who played on the offensive line at OSU in the 1980s when Mike Gundy was quarterback, was on Gundy’s Cowboy staff from 2005-12.
Houston hired Meacham as offensive coordinator for the 2013 season, and a year later Gary Patterson did the same at TCU. In 2014, Meacham’s Horned Frog offense was one of the nation’s best and he was a finalist for the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant.
