Oklahoma football’s success rate isn’t all that against some of the nation’s most storied programs.
The Sooners are 2-9 against Notre Dame. The Sooners are 2-6-1 against Southern Cal. The Sooners are 2-3 against Clemson.
But against Alabama, OU has done just fine. The 1962 Crimson Tide, coached by Bear Bryant and quarterbacked by Joe Namath, beat the Sooners 17-0 in the Orange Bowl. But since then, OU is 3-0-1 vs. Bama:
* A 24-24 tie in the 1970 Bluebonnet Bowl, the final game of the Sooners’ inaugural (half) season with the wishbone. Bryant was so impressed with OU’s offense, he installed the wishbone himself that off-season, and the ‘bone launched two dynasties in the ‘70s.
