Jumping out to an early 6-0 lead, head coach Pete Hughes utilized the versatility of his players by changing the lineup. With a little room breathe, the Oklahoma Sooners relaxed while the Wichita State Shockers stormed back. Taking their first lead in the 8th inning off, WSU held on to win the game 9-8.
After a single scoreless inning, the flood gates opened for the Sooners with a sac-fly from Jacob Evans to push the first run of the evening across the plate. Batting around the order, Oklahoma built a 5-0 lead on seven hits heading into the bottom of the second inning.
