Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence joined an exclusive club with the Tigers' 44-16 win over top-ranked Alabama on Monday night.
The 19-year-old joined former Oklahoma star Jamelle Holieway as the only true freshmen quarterbacks to lead a team to a national title.
Lawrence threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns as Clemson rolled past the Crimson Tide to win its second title in three years.
Similar to Holieway's freshman year in 1985, Lawrence wasn't the starting quarterback at the beginning of the season. Lawrence was the backup before coach Dabo Swinney elevated him over senior Kelly Bryant in September.
