MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson suffered a left knee injury on the opening drive of the Orange Bowl vs. Oklahoma, and his status is unclear for the rest of the game.
Lawson, an All-American who leads the nation in tackles for a loss and has already declared for the 2016 NFL Draft, was tended to by the team’s medical trainers after the first drive, a Sooners touchdown. He re-entered on the second possession and made a third-down sack of Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, before immediately going to the trainers again.
Clemson’s spokesmen said lead trainer Danny Poole has not officially ruled out Lawson for the game.
