Carl Albert catcher Corey Zangari was always on the Chicago White Sox’s radar.
He had worked out in Florida with them, and they had been to multiple games to scout him.
The Oklahoma State signee was selected by the organization Tuesday in the sixth round and No. 172 overall of the MLB Draft as a first baseman, and he said he is bypassing his collegiate opportunity.
“As of right now, I’m just more pumped than anything to go play baseball,” Zangari said. “I probably will just go with my career with the White Sox.”
Zangari is a 6-foot-5 power hitter who hit 19 home runs and drove in 64 while leading Carl Albert to a state runner-up finish this season.
