NORMAN — Saturday, Cale Gundy will be at the site of his collegiate debut.
On a sweltering September day in 1990, Gundy jogged onto the turf at the Rose Bowl and quarterbacked Oklahoma — though he was the second quarterback in the game. Steve Collins started that day.
This weekend, Gundy will be in the historic stadium as a player or coach for the fifth time — now three games against UCLA and a pair of Rose Bowls — when the Sooners take on the Bruins (7 p.m., Fox).
Though Gundy has been either an Oklahoma quarterback or assistant coach each time, there was a time when he wanted to wear the blue and gold of UCLA.
