Phil Steele, perhaps the dean of college football sabermetric types, points out in his latest college football preview publication that the past four times the Sooners have begun a new season ranked in the top-five nationally they have not finished higher than 15th in the country, and two of those times they finished outside of the top-25 rankings.
That is certainly not the perspective that most college football experts have of the 2016 edition of Bob Stoops’ troops, and Bovada, the online Las Vegas sports book, is the latest to jump on the Oklahoma bandwagon as a national title contender in the coming season.
