Big 12 football settles on one division, No. 1 vs. No. 2 championship game

The two highest placed teams in conference standings will vie for the newly reinstated Big 12 football conference championship in 2017, the conference announced Friday.

Instead of splitting into two divisions, the 10 teams will remain in one division and continue to play a round robin schedule. At the conclusion of the regular season, the two teams ranked highest in the conference will meet at a neutral site to play the Big 12 championship.

Earlier this month, the Big 12 voted against adding new schools.

“There are a number of advantages to matching our top two teams,” said Commissioner Bob Bowlsby in a statement.
