Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby held a teleconference in late March, and one of the interesting questions asked concerned the financial crisis that likely will hit athletic departments in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
Bowlsby was asked: “Is this kind of the reset that college football … needed as far as coaching contracts are concerned?”
Interesting question. Administrators long have said the huge coaching salaries merely are a reflection of the marketplace. But what if the market crashes?
This was Bowlsby’s response: “Well, I haven't heard anybody make any announcements that they were going to reduce coaches contracts.
