Oklahoma sophomore starter Cade Cavalli had an encouraging return to the mound after missing his last two starts.
Cavalli threw three scoreless innings, but a 24-pitch second inning prevented him from going even deeper into the game in Saturday's late Game 2 of the Bedlam series at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Sooners coach Skip Johnson had said before the game that Cavalli would be limited to around 60 pitches as he worked back from a “stress reaction” in his forearm.
Although Cavalli worked out of a bit of a jam — two on, one out — in the second after back-to-back walks, his pitch count started to soar in the inning thanks to not only the walks but the two strikeouts that followed.
