For a while this summer, the starting quarterback job for Oklahoma was still up in the air – or so the folks inside the Sooner football program would have us believe. It was the “up in the air” part that Bob Stoops and new offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley wanted to see one of their QB candidates take command of. Baker Mayfield won the job, and after the first three games this season, no one is doubting that he is the right man to lead Riley’s new Air Raid offense.
Not surprisingly, playing for the first time with a new team and an offense that is new to everyone else but Mayfield, his numbers and proficiency have gotten progressively better in each of the three games.
